SILIKON™
Silikon™ is a highly purified sterile oil, which is
injected in micro-droplets to soften and fill in facial
lines, depressions and acne scars. The person’s own
collagen forms a network around the Silikon™ which
gradually fills in the defects.
Is Silikon™ Injection Treatment Safe?
The micro-droplet injection technique has been used
safely for more than 60 years. The purity of the
material is so high that it is FDA approved for use in
the eye to treat retinal detachment.
Allergic reaction to silicone is extremely rare
especially since we have all received small amounts of
it from the coating of disposable needles and the
lining of disposable syringes.
How many treatments are needed?
5 to 10 injection sessions, at least a month apart (to
allow time for collagen to form around the Silikon™
microdroplets) , are usually necessary to achieve
optimal results.
Is this procedure permanent?
Unlike most other filler substances, the results with
silicone are essentially permanent, although a small
touch-up might be necessary after 5 – 10 years.
Are there side effects?
The main side effect is occasional bruising from needle sticks,
however this is easily covered with concealer make-up and
fades in about one week.
Very rarely a small nodule may develop on the under
surface of the lips, but this can be treated and, also,
usually becomes less obvious with time. Back to Top
Restylane®
This temporary filler substance was recently approved
by the FDA for the treatment of facial lines and
depressions.
Restylane® consists of hyaluronic acid that
is a naturally occurring major constituent of collagen. When
injected, it quickly combines with water to cause tissue swelling,
resulting in immediate filling of wrinkles and depressions.
It is particularly effective in enhancing lips.
For the person desiring quick results, Restylane®
is an excellent filler substance. Depending on the location,
the correction may last for 4 to 6 months.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Side effects include tenderness, redness, and swelling
which may last for 3 – 5 days. As with any needle
puncture procedure, bruising can occasionally occur
which can last for a week.
